Called to Serve
By AccentCareVeterans Day is a chance for us to honor the generations of men and women who have served and sacrificed for this country for more than 250 years. They put their lives on the line to protect our nation’s democracy, values, and freedom.
Kevin Hannes, Vice President of Emergency Management, shares with us his unique connections to his years in military and civilian security to his position at AccentCare. Kevin had a distinguished Navy career, serving in multiple command and staff positions before retiring as a Commander. After the Navy, Kevin joined the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a Federal Coordinating Officer and served as the representative of the President of the United States, DHS, and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) during major disasters and emergency declarations.
“In the Navy, I worked in command positions, on staff, in the Pentagon. Like a lot of military Veterans, I was exposed to different environments and responsibilities,” said Hannes. “I believe that type of diverse experience is very applicable in the health care world, where it moves quickly. There is always something to learn and new ways to improve and grow. But, most importantly, I think that what really connects the two is the idea of service.”
“For so many Veterans, the military is more than just a job, it’s a calling. In health care, it’s the same thing: it can be difficult, complex, or stressful, but in health care we are called to serve patients and families. And they rely on us. When I joined AccentCare, I saw something familiar to what I’d known in the Navy. I saw the shared values of excellence and integrity. I saw people who are reaching out, meeting people where they are, and providing help to those who need it most. When you’re called to serve, you look for opportunities to keep serving. And that’s why I love it here at AccentCare – we serve those who need it most.”
We recognize and celebrate every Veteran we are fortunate enough to have in our AccentCare staff and take pride in the care and compassion we provide to our Veteran patients and their chosen families.
To all Veterans, thank you for your service. We salute you.
